Giorno del Rigraziamento

November 29, 2013 By Thauna - Leave a Comment

Yesterday was Thanksgiving here in the US. It’s a day to enjoy family and feel grateful for all our blessings. In my family we all gather for a day full of cooking and fun, followed by what in comparison seems like a very short meal.

Here are some ways to express thanks in Italian:

Grazie = Thank you
GRAHT-zeah (don’t forget the ah at the end)

Grazie mille = Thanks a million
MEE-lay

Grazie di cuore = thank you from my heart
DEE KUO-ray

Thank you to a friend:

Ti ringrazio tanto = thank you so much
TEE REENgraht-zeo TAHN-to

La ringrazio tanto = thank you so much (Formal)
LAH REENgraht-zeo TAHN-to

Thank you for a gift:

Grazie. E’ troppo bello! = Thank you. It’s very beautiful.

Grazie. Mi piace tanto = Thank you. I like it very much.

Replying to grazie:

Prego = You’re welcome

Non c’è di che – Don’t mention it.

And a small portion of my gratitude list:

Mia famiglia = my family

Mio figli = my children

Mia nipotina = my grand daughter

Buona salute = good health

Lavoro che amo = Work I love

If you celebrate (festeggiare = to celebrate) Thanksgiving I hope your day was wonderful (meraviglioso).
