Italian Movies…I’m falling in love with Marcello Mastroianni. Although most of the movies I’m watching with him I was a small child when they were made. He and Sophia Loren’s movies are similar to our Doris Day and Cary Grant movies. But more passionate.
I’m trying to watch at least one Italian movie a week. My Netflix queue is growing with more Italian movies than American. I wish that I had a channel on TV to watch Italian television.
Whether I understand it or not I love listening to Italian. By watching Italian movies I am hoping to train my ear to understand more Italian. I just love the music of the language.
A new favorite (beside Marcello) is Le Tigre e Le Neve (The Tiger and the Snow). Starring Roberto Benigni, you know the crazy, exuberant, cute Italian guy that won the Oscar for Life is Beautiful several years ago.
Oh this movie! It’s funny. It tugs on your heart strings. It’s romantic. It’s serious at times and makes you think about what war does to a country in an everyday way, like what happens when a hospital has no supplies.
But it’s the funny parts and the romance that really got me. And he is the most adorable man. His charm and wit, well it just charmed me. And he loves her beyond anything.
Oh to be loved like that. Are all Italian men so romantic?
I think I need to rewatch this tonight.
It’s currently on Netflix streaming but I’m thinking about buying it. It is that good.
I’m especially excited to stream it on Netflix! Thanks.
Teri, let me know if you like it!
Totally loved that film!
